It regulates so that you are never too hot or cold in any weather. Naturally Warm Originating from Merino sheep from Australia that endure temperatures as low as 5 degrees, Merino wool is a lightweight, naturally warm fiber. Itch-Free Unlike regular wool fiber that is heavy, coarse, and itchy, Merino wool actually has thinner, finer fibers that make it soft to the touch and cause no irritation to the skin. Ultra Soft Merino’s fibers are much smaller in diameter than other wool which gives the fibers the ability to bend softly with increased flexibility. The result? Soft to the touch. I bought these wool socks for hiking but it got really cold this week and being skeptical of their quality I decided to test them out by wearing them and washing them for the past two weeks like I would if they were another quality brand of hiking sock. Here’s the truth... these socks are amazing. They keep my feet warm and fit snug after washing in the machine and drying them accidentally in the dryer. They did definitely shrink a little but it was just enough to allow me to comfortably slip another pair of alpaca sleeping socks over them for double protection. I am using them as a liner and have worn them for three days around the house sans washing with no discernible odor just like a good wool sock should perform. The ankle area was a little tight when I first put them on because there is extra elastic in that area, but I soon realized it was not going to cause an issue for me. If you have large ankles it could be uncomfortable, but if you wash and wear them a few times without drying the elastic/ wool will loosen up some. If you’re an average ankle size (like me) they are super because they stay put when I slip another pair over the top. I expect these will hold up well over time based on the rigorous paces I have put them through this past two weeks. They still look new. Two pair is enough to wash and swap during travel and the shorter sock means an ounce or two less weight in your bag. Pair them with a good thick wool sleeping sock and these make the perfect set for hard core trekking. I’m considering using them on the Appalachian trail. Even though other companies offer a trade in warranty I don’t think I will need one with these and will just buy more for the price when they do finally wear out. Highly recommend to anyone with cold feet who has to do a lot of walking. I noticed they have some “no show” style and I might consider a pair of those but I actually like having the ankle covered for warmth and smoothness under another pair. Happy trails. ❤️This was my first experience with ankle high merino wool socks for active outdoor use. I live in a warm climate, so I really hadn’t thought of wool as a material choice for hiking, boating, and other outdoor activities. After a month of use, I’ve changed my mind. The Merino wool insulative qualities are not just good for keeping your warm, but even on days when it reaches into the 80’s I’ve relied on them to keep my feet comfortable and dry. Their hydrophobic qualities are great when I’ve had the need to get in the water in sandals. When I get back out, the water drains out quickly and I don’t get that cold/wet feeling. They are also great for preventing foot sweat and odor. I’m a believer!I love the feel of these socks.I’ve got 8 pair of these now, they feel great and fit perfect. I know with the higher wool blend that I should probably hand wash and dry, but I’ve got better things to do. I just toss em in the laundry. Got some shrinkage which made it tighter getting them on, but they still feel great. My only partially negative comment is that the neck of these socks don’t have much stretch to get over my heel. I’ve got wide feet with high instep, so maybe that’s just me. Feel fine around my ankle once I get them on.Very comfortable! True to size fit. Be aware the opening is tight when putting your foot in but fits great on your ankle once they are on, (no sagging or stretched out ankle on these). These socks are great. Biggest positive is they don't lose their shape when you wear them. These are beautiful socks, a bit tight to put on, but nice and warm and comfy without being too thick. However, one pair developed a hole in one sock after one wearing! I'll have to darn it before I can wash them and wear them again. That was very disappointing. Did they come with a hole? I can't imagine what I could have done to wear a hole in one day, working from home on a computer, walking my dog.The socks feel good and they are good quality, but the sizing is off. I’ve debated about sending them back. I wear an 8 1/2 women’s US and ordered medium as recommended. They really would be more appropriate for a man’s foot. These dare beautiful wool socks. However, I found that the upper elastic band was too tight and left imprints on my legs.
